Comparison of Campylobacter risk assessment models: Towards a European consensus model?

The different existing risk assessments on Campylobacter, developed by Med-Vet-Net partners, will be compared to explore differences and similarities, and to come to a consensus about the best risk assessment methodologies appropriate for different risk management questions. It is expected that the WP will focus on Campylobacter in broiler meat, but other routes will be considered as well.

Workpackage 24 Annual Report 2007

Objectives

  • Initial meeting to exchange modelling experiences, indicate the specific topics of interest and discuss research plans.
  • Research phase in which a core team of partners visit each other and collaboratively write a report and a scientific paper on the comparison of models and the feasibility of a "consensus model". Here, other WP partners will predominantly have an advisory role.
  • Second (public) meeting for discussion of the possibility of developing, and the desirability of, a software package for a European consensus model for risk assessment of Campylobacter.
  • Detailed research plan will be established for development of a userfriendly risk model as a software package that may be applicable for many interested parties in Europe, and can be used as a harmonised European decision tool to support risk management on campylobacteriosis.
  • This research plan will be accompanied by a database with relevant data available in Europe and suggestions for harmonised quantitative data collection in Europe, to meet the data needs of the proposed model.
