The Danish Institute for Food and Veterinary Research (DFVF) has merged with the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), Risø National Laboratory, Danish Institute for Fisheries Research, Danish National Space Center and Danish Transport Research Institute.

The Danish Institute for Food and Veterinary Research (DFVF) enters into the DTU as two institutes and a commercial unit: National Food Institute (www.food.dtu.dk), National Veterinary Institute (www.vet.dtu.dk) and Dianova (www.dianova.dk). Dianova is to sell sera, vaccines, diagnostic analyses and consultancy on behalf of the two institutes.

The National Food Institute

The National Food Institute conducts research and gives advice on nutrition, food safety, environment and health. Our work involves the entire food chain within five primary disciplines: nutrition, chemistry, toxicology, microbiology and epidemiology. We carry out scientifically based risk assessments, give advice to Danish and international authorities and industry, monitor food consumption patterns and the national food safety situation, and provide diagnostic and analytical services. The National Food Institute is the national reference laboratory for chemical and microbial food safety and also serves as an international reference laboratory for the EU, WHO (World Health Organization) and EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) in a number of areas.

The National Veterinary Institute

The National Veterinary Institute conducts research and gives advice on animal diseases. We carry out scientifically based risk assessments, give advice to Danish and international authorities and provide diagnostic and analytical services. The Institute covers all disciplines relating to infectious diseases: pathology, bacteriology, virology, parasitology, immunology, vaccinology, serology and epidemiology. The National Veterinary Institute serves as an international reference laboratory for the EU and OIE (World Organisation for Animal Health) and gives advice EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) in a number of areas.

  • Until 1 January 2007 The National Veterinary Institute was part of the Danish Institute for Food and Veterinary Research
  • Staff: 350 employees, 100 of these are scientists (work year equivalents)
  • Director of institute: PhD, MPM, Kristian Møller
  • The National Veterinary Institute is located at Frederiksberg, in Århus and on the island Lindholm in Stege Bay.
