In 2001, Professor Jan K. Ludwicki was Executive Director of the National Institute of Hygiene. Currently, since January 15, 2007 he has been appointed Deputy Director for Postgraduate Training and Public Health at the same Institute. As the Head of the Department of Environmental Toxicology, Jan continues this activity focusing on training and research, including expertise for health authorities in Poland, and risk assessment.

He was Polish co-ordinator of the European Commission R&D Project, INUENDO, dealing with biopersistent organochlorines and the risk for human fertility (5th Framework Programme). He is leading the Risk Assessment Group for Rapid Alert System Food and Feed (RASFF) and for authorization of plant protection products. He is also a Member of the EFSA Advisory Forum and Government expert for the Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health – Pesticide Residues for the EU Commission. He is member of the Scientific Councils of the National Institute of Hygiene, the National Institute of Drug Research and the Institute of Organic Industry.
